MINNEAPOLIS (05/01/2012) -- The Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) congratulates Candee Goodman as the recipient of the 2012 Advancement of Justice Award. Presentation of the award will be on May 24 at the HCBA Annual Meeting.
The Advancement of Justice Award is the only award given by the HCBA to honor the work of an agency or an individual who is not a lawyer. The award is given in recognition of contributions toward improving the administration of justice, achieving freedom through law, or increasing the public’s understanding of the legal profession and justice system.
The award is given to Candee Goodman to recognize the work she has done throughout her career to improve access to legal services and to promote pro bono service to the public. Goodman worked with Volunteer Lawyers Network (then called Legal Advice Clinics) for nearly 25 years, serving as its first executive director. She was instrumental in making Volunteer Lawyers Network what it is today. Most recently, Goodman retired after serving as Pro Bono Coordinator for the Lindquist and Vennum law firm for 15 years. In her professional positions and also with her own volunteer time she has generously contributed through a wide range of committees, study groups, task forces, and initiatives with an enthusiastic commitment to access to justice. Though retired, she remains on the board of Call for Justice LLC, a legal access hotline, an agency she help develop. Throughout her career, Goodman has demonstrated an unflagging commitment to the delivery of legal services to the disadvantaged.
The Hennepin County Bar Association, the largest of Minnesota's 21 county bar associations and representing almost half of Minnesota's attorneys, is a private, non-profit organization which provides or supports many free or low-cost services to the public including: Volunteer Lawyers Network which provides free legal advice for low income people; Lawyer Referral and Information Services; public education programming; and financial grants through the Hennepin County Bar Foundation.
