HCBA Commits to Equipping Effective Leaders for Nonprofit Boards - Full Story

Minneapolis (11-09-05): -- The Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) has announced the 2006 program of LINC – Leaders Impacting the Nonprofit Community, a program to equip individuals for leadership in service to the not-for-profit community.  HCBA Past-President Brent Routman stated “We are particularly proud and excited about LINC and its potential.  We look forward to a continuing partnership with the nonprofit community in developing leaders for tomorrow.”

LINC is designed to help meet the ongoing need for leaders to serve effectively on boards of directors in the not-for-profit community.  LINC participants will receive extensive training in practical leadership including:

  • Effective leadership in the public, private and nonprofit sectors

  • The nexus of leadership and ethical principles

  • Organizational governance

  • Fiduciary responsibilities

  • Personal leadership styles

  • The nuts and bolts of running meetings, committee work and fundraising

  • Crisis management

  • Media relations

The LINC class, in session from January to June 2006, will consist of a diverse group of twenty-five individuals chosen through a competitive application process.  Details of the program, requirements for participation, and an application form for this eight-session program (of half-day and full-day programs and a two-day retreat) are available at www.hcba.org/Members/Linc.aspx.  The application deadline is Nov. 21.

LINC training will be led by a distinguished faculty, including other community and nonprofit organization leaders, national bar association leaders, government officials, judges, professional leadership trainers, and the media.  The LINC program will climax June 7 with a recognition dinner featuring special guests and the presentation of the Walter Mondale Public and Community Service Award, named for its 2005 recipient.
