Build the Diversity Pipeline: Attorneys needed to help with middle-school debate program - Full Story

The HCBA is sponsoring a middle school debate tournament on Wednesday, March 6, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in downtown Minneapolis, and volunteers are needed!

Volunteer attorneys will serve on a career panel to discuss their professional paths with students, and will judge the debate rounds. Each set of judges will have at least one attorney with debate experience. With or without debate experience, you will be a great resource for the students at the tournament. Volunteer shifts are one to four hours. A brief training will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The HCBA is committed to fostering diversity in the legal profession for future generations and is excited to partner with the Minnesota Urban Debate League in these efforts.  By exposing urban students to legal professionals and providing access to debate programs in schools, the Minnesota Urban Debate League is at the forefront of creating the next generation of critical thinkers.

This is the HCBA’s third year hosting  middle school tournaments. Students really enjoyed their interaction with attorneys and were proud to display their debate skills while learning about the legal profession from those that practice it.

If you would like more information or are interested in volunteering on March 6, please contact Jim Skoog at jim@hcba.org or 612-752-6615.
