Jean
F. Holloway
took office on July 1, 2002, as the 84th
president of the Hennepin County Bar Association
(HCBA). With a membership of nearly 8000 lawyers,
the HCBA is Minnesota’s largest local bar association
and also the nation’s ninth largest. Accepting the
gavel from outgoing president Brian Melendez, Holloway
begins a one-year term as president.
With both a J.D. and
M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, Ms. Holloway is a
business consultant for McKinsey & Company, located
in Minneapolis and recognized nationally. Before joining
McKinsey & Company, Holloway was a partner with
Dorsey & Whitney where she practiced commercial,
complex and employment litigation.

In the middle of her decade
with Dorsey & Whitney, Ms. Holloway served for
nearly a year with the Children’s Defense Fund as a
lobbyist on children’s issues and as its senior
attorney. Much of her volunteer service as a lawyer has
focused on children’s issues, and she continues to be
a passionate supporter of public service by the
profession.
Holloway has taken many leadership roles within the HCBA
as well as in local and national organizations such as
Minnesota Women Lawyers, Minnesota Supreme Court Task
Forces for Guardian ad Litem and Foster care issues, the
Governor’s Council on Action for Children, and the
Children’s Law Center.
In her acceptance speech at the HCBA Annual Meeting,
Holloway made it clear that she has every intention of
building upon the solid foundation laid down by past
leadership and does not see a need for any radical
changes. Where she will focus her attention and energies
are four main areas: She looks forward to implementing
the new judicial evaluation system, looking for the best
ways to draw member benefits from new technologies,
seeing if there are ways to make the association’s
governance structure more streamlined, and -- most
passionate among her interests – to take additional
strides in assuring access to justice for all the
disadvantaged, particularly low-income children. She
stated, "I applaud the past commitment of the
Hennepin County bar to pro bono activities and
anticipate exploring ways to coordinate and expand those
efforts."
Ms. Holloway, with husband Dr. Avi Nahum and their three
children, make their home in Edina. |
