Family Law & Real Property: Crossroads of Real Property and Family Law – Pointers for Practitioners When Cross Practice Issues Arise

1.0 CLE credit applied for this program.

FEATURING: Chad E. Novak, Underwriting Counsel, Commercial Partners Title, LLC and Rodney Harold Jensen, Partner, Jensen, Mullen, McSweeney & Meyer, PLLP

Attend a joint session of the Family Law Section and the Real Property Section to dive into areas of interest for practitioners in both disciplines.  As we’re all aware, there are pitfalls in all practice areas, especially for those of us who don’t practice in a particular area on a consistent basis.  Given the broad overlap of family law and real property law, practitioners in both areas often find themselves creating unintentional difficulties or unanticipated results for their clients.

Presenters Rodney Jensen and Chad Novak will uncover key areas where mistakes are commonly made, in order to ensure that session attendees don’t make those same mistakes.  Areas of discussion will include: real property tenancies and their effects on conveyance documents; tricks with legal descriptions; what is this “Torrens” thing, anyway?; marital liens in divorce orders; conveying title either by MSDA or court order; the effect of a lingering mortgage in the conveying ex-spouse’s name; problems arising when the ex-spouse’s judgment lien attaches; state recognition of foreign orders; establishing and enforcing attorney’s liens; and more...  Presenters will also gladly take questions from the audience, so be ready to discuss those burning issues you’ve always wondered about!

CLE from 4:30-5:30 with happy hour to follow.  Complimentary appetizers.  All at Atlas Grill, US Bank Plaza 200 South 6th Street.
