Criminal Law: State v. Minissale - The Anatomy of a Successful Murder Insanity Defense

1.0 CLE credit applied for.

Featuring: Brock Hunter, The Law Office of Brockton D. Hunter PA

In November, 2015, a Mankato jury found Levi Minissale not guilty by reason of mental illness on charges of first degree murder and first degree attempted murder.  This was the first time a Minnesota jury has reached such a verdict since the 1970s.  Nationally, Minissale, who served as a Marine in Afghanistan, is also the first veteran of that war to successfully assert an insanity defense to murder charges.  Brock Hunter, who led Minissale's defense team, will discuss the trial and the key elements that resulted in this rare victory.
