Gray Area Thinking®: Welcoming Diverse Humans
Our society is tackling many issues relative to diversity and how to be welcoming toward and inclusive of persons who are “different” from “us.” This includes challenges relative to how we group and label humans as “other” and how we forget our many human commonalities that transcend race, religion, LGBTQ status, gender, and disability status. With this presentation, Ellie Krug provides a toolkit, “Gray Area Thinking®, as a way of understanding and welcoming humans of all persuasions.
- Identify how we collectively label and group others who are “different” and the resulting obstacles toward inclusivity.
- Describe ways of understanding and remembering our commonalities.
- Explore strategies for how law firm leaders/culture builders can better focus on and communicate about inclusivity so as to make the firm more welcoming in general and attractive to clients who value diversity for their legal counsel.
- Illustrate how we all ripple to each other in either positive or negative ways that impact diverse client relationships and the ability to attract/retain diverse attorneys.
