Minneapolis (11-17-06): -- Online access to finding the right lawyer is now available through the Lawyer Referral and Information Service.  The new online service is provided by the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA), and is the latest enhancement to this public service.  Access the referral service on the Web at www.hcba.org or by calling (612) 752-6666. 

Experienced in helping individuals find the right solution for legal concerns, the HCBA has sponsored an active referral service for over fifty years, and handles over 1,000 calls each month from individuals seeking an attorney in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.  Now individuals can go online to receive a referral to a lawyer from the service, no matter what time of the day or night – not just during regular business hours.

By entering information on the nature of the legal concern and the area of legal jurisdiction, individuals can receive a referral to a specific attorney who is part of the HCBA’s referral program, which meets the high standards for recognition by the American Bar Association.  All participating attorneys must fulfill experience requirements, carry malpractice insurance, and have a clean ethics record – so it is safer and better than picking from listings in the yellow pages.   Individuals can use Lawyer Referral with confidence.  While the referral service charges $30 for all non-injury cases, the initial half-hour consultation with the attorney is free, taking the surprise factor out of learning about one’s legal options. 

While the new online service allows referrals at all times of the day, individuals can also speak to experienced counselors by phoning the referral service at (612) 752-6666 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. during the work week.  The phone service is strongly recommended for individuals with complex issues, immediate legal deadlines, or where multiple areas of law intersect.  Phone counselors help individuals focus on the exact legal matter and can also give referrals to a wide range of other agencies and options for pursuing legal concerns, whether the need is for legal aid programs for the disadvantaged, community social services, or other needs.
