Hennepin County Bar Association Attorneys Offer Free
Legal Advice at Minneapolis Urban League
Minneapolis (4-14-06):
-- A
free “Ask-A-Lawyer” event will be available to the
public on Monday, May 1 through Thursday, May 4 as part
of the nationally-observed Law Week. Attorneys will be
available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday and
Tuesday, and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday
and Thursday at the Minneapolis Urban League,
located at 2100 Plymouth Avenue North.
Individuals can come with their general legal questions
and meet with a lawyer for a 15-minute consultation,
free of charge. The “Ask-A-Lawyer” consultations are
available on a first-come, first-served basis and no
reservations are accepted. Paralegal volunteers will
provide information on legal resources in the community
and general information about legal procedures. Other
printed information on legal concerns and legal
resources will also be available.
The
Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) and the Minnesota
Paralegal Association sponsor “Ask-A-Lawyer” each year
in celebration of Law Day (May 1), an annual observance,
established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 as
a means of strengthening the American heritage of
liberty, justice, and equality under the law. The HCBA
makes Law Day, and the week in which it falls, a focus
for its community service and legal education programs.
The
Hennepin County Bar Association is the largest of
Minnesota's 21 county bar associations and represents
almost half of Minnesota's attorneys. It is one of the
10 largest local bar associations in the United
States. The association works to ensure fairness and
accessibility to the legal system by promoting public
understanding and by working with the courts to improve
the administration of justice.
