The president of the Hennepin County Bar Association, Mary Vasaly, is the only authorized spokesperson on all matters of association policy and position.

The HCBA’s executive director, Larry Buxbaum, and the communications director, Duane Stanley, can assist media with arranging interviews, understanding matters of established programs and procedures, finding background information, and connecting with legal experts in various practice areas and issues of substantive law.

HENNEPIN COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION

  • Largest of Minnesota's 21 district bar associations

  • Representing approximately one half of all Minnesota attorneys

  • Incorporated in 1919

MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the Hennepin County Bar Association is to serve the needs of its membership by advancing professionalism, ethical conduct, diversity, competence, practice development, and collegiality in the legal profession.  The association shall strive to ensure the fairness and accessibility of the legal system by promoting public understanding and confidence in our system of justice and by working along with the courts to improve the administration of justice.

SERVICE TO COMMUNITY

  • Lawyer Referral and Information Service

  • Misdemeanor Defense Project

  • TEL-LAW and a variety of law-related education projects in the community and through the schools

  • Commitment Defense Project                 

  • Provision of services to low income individuals (including partnership with, and funding for, the Volunteer Lawyers Network and through cash grants to community legal service programs by the Hennepin County Bar Foundation.)

  • Speakers Bureau and public legal education materials

  • LINC (Leaders Impacting the Nonprofit Community) Program, training professionals to serve in nonprofit board positions.

SUBSTANTIVE LAW

Members can participate in any of twenty substantive law “Sections” of the association.  These sections provide opportunities for networking and continuing education to those who practice in particular areas of law.  Sections also provide a forum for members to discuss issues arising in their practice of law and to initiate or respond to legislative proposals that would impact current law.
