New Lawyers Section - Volunteer Activity

AchieveMpls - Brown Bag Lunch Presentations to Students

AchieveMpls was founded by education, business, government, and civic leaders who were inspired by the need to join forces to support public education and prepare students for a successful life after high school. Their Brown Bag Luncheons allow professionals to speak to high school students about various professional careers.  There are three upcoming dates to choose from at Minneapolis high schools:

 Thursday, January 8
 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
at
Washburn High School  ( 201 W 49th St, Minneapolis, 55419 )

Thursday,  January 29
from 11:10 a.m. to 11:50 p.m. at Menlo Park High School (1700 Second Street NE Minneapolis, 55418 )

Make some time to speak to students this year.  We are looking for individuals who can share a positive and proactive life message with high school students. We bring lunch; you bring your story.  Topics can include:

What your job is like, and how you got there.

Share the details of your work, and what it takes for students to thrive on their own journey.

What makes someone successful in the workplace.
From resumes to applications, interviewing and after; once you have a job, how do you keep it and move forward in your position? What is networking and how do you use it effectively?

What students should plan for as they head to college.

What is college really like? How to get financial aid? How do you pick a major? Students have many questions when it comes to navigating college.

What is law school really like, and how to get there.
What skills are needed to excel? What is the application process like? What careers are open to you with a law degree?

A topic of your own choosing.
What is your story? Drawing from your own experiences, share what you wish someone had shared with you.
