Kimberly Lowe Takes the Helm as the HCBA's 97th President

NEWS RELEASE: June 18, 2015

Minneapolis: -- Kimberly Lowe becomes the 97th president of the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) on July 1. Lowe is a shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron where she chairs the firm’s Nonprofit Organizations practice group and co-chairs the Start-Up and Rapid Growth Enterprises practice group. 

Kim Lowe 2015Lowe is active in bar association leadership both locally and nationally. She has been in HCBA leadership roles since 2009, when she was elected to serve on the Finance & Planning committee. She is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section, serving as liaison to the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, vice-chair of the Nonprofit Governance subcommittee, chair of the Task Force on the Governance of Social Benefit Ventures, and vice-chair of the Pro Bono Committee. In September 2015, Lowe will begin her three-year term as chair of the ABA Business Law Section Pro Bono Committee. Lowe was recently elected to serve a four-year term for the Minnesota State Bar Association’s (MSBA) Business Law Section Executive Council and currently serves on the MSBA’s Task Force on the Future of Legal Education. Lowe chaired the MSBA’s Public Benefit Corporation Drafting Committee and is credited as the primary drafter of Minnesota’s Public Benefit Corporation Act.  

A graduate of the University of Detroit and the Boston College Law School (J.D., 1998), Lowe has -- since moving to the Twin Cities -- served in a leadership roles with: BestPrep; YWCA of Minneapolis; Growth & Justice; LegalCORPS; Volunteer Legal Network; and Twin Cities Diversity in Practice.  Lowe also teaches regularly, serving as an adjunct professor with the Hamline University School of Law, the Hamline University School of Business, and the College of St. Catherine (where she teaches business law).  

Serving with Lowe in the HCBA leadership for the coming year is the Executive Committee, including newly-elected HCBA Secretary Adine Momoh (Stinson Leonard Street) who begins the five-year leadership track (to serve as president for 2018-19, the HCBA’s 100th year.)  Nicole Kettwick serves a one-year term, representing the New Lawyers Section.
