Purpose of
Our Section
The purpose of the HCBA Family Law Section is to
contribute to the positive evolution of family law in
our county both to enhance the quality of justice and
service available to our clients and to promote career
satisfaction within our profession.
Our efforts are designed specifically to increase
professionalism, educational opportunities and
collegiality among attorneys practicing family law in
Hennepin County and to foster open and constructive
dialogue and continuing liaison between those attorneys
and the judicial officers before whom we practice. We
also consider matters of procedural and substantive law
related to our area of practice.
Activities of the
Section
The formal activities of the Family Law Section include
the following:
1) Monthly meetings of the Section’s executive committee
— The executive committee provides leadership
and continuity in managing the activities of the
Section. Executive committee meetings take place each
month from September through June. The meetings include
a discussion of the topics and speakers for our monthly
luncheon seminars, other ongoing projects, new matters
raised by our membership and a sharing of professional
experiences and concerns. The meetings are open to all
members of the Section. Contact the Section Chairs for
more information.
2) Monthly luncheon seminars — From September to June we
sponsor monthly lunch and seminar meetings. The seminar portion of the
meetings allow members to either meet judges who have
recently been assigned to Family Court or to listen to
experts give presentations on various areas of family
law practice. CLE credit is given for attendance at
these meetings. See Family Law Section
Calendar for
upcoming seminars.
3) Roundtable meetings between Section members and
judicial officers of the Hennepin County Family Court
bench — These meetings are held one or two times
a year. They consist of an informal buffet-style dinner
followed by an open discussion of topics of concern to
both our membership and the Hennepin County Family Court
judicial officers. For further details of upcoming
roundtable meetings, contact Larry Schultz at
612-752-6600
4) Maintaining and expanding the resources available on
the Section’s Website - Our new online home is in its
very early stages of development. We hope that it will
grow into a resource that provides our membership with a
wealth of valuable information and becomes a strong tool
for promoting the goals of the Family Law Section.
