A
"new lawyer" is a lawyer who has been admitted
to practice before the MN Supreme Court within
the past six years, or is 36 years of age or
younger.
The New Lawyers
Section of the HCBA consists
of those new lawyers who have joined our
association.
The Section organizes programs that promote professional development,
community outreach, networking opportunities, and social
events.

Stay
Active in the New Lawyers Section
Take part in or help plan a variety of
activities specifically designed for you - the new
lawyer. Get involved today and become the best lawyer
you can be.
Continuing
Legal Education:
Earn low-cost CLE credits at New Lawyers
Section-sponsored seminars or choose from hundreds of hours of
additional programming offered each year at the HCBA
office.
Don’t miss our
annual full-day CLE program—Nuts & Bolts for New
Lawyers—to learn the essential do’s and don’ts for any
attorney just starting out. Substantive presentations
help you hone your skills, panel discussions give you
the inside scoop on what it really takes to build a
successful career, and handouts provide practice forms,
tips, and shortcuts to make you look like a seasoned
veteran. It’s the seminar that every new lawyer can’t
miss.
In addition, the New Lawyers
Section also sponsors monthly one-hour CLE programs on
topics from a variety of substantive practice areas as
well as our Recess with Judges programs that give you an
opportunity to gain insight and practice tips "straight
from the bench."
Community
Service:
Contribute
to your community by volunteering to help with a variety
of pro bono and other service projects sponsored by the
New Lawyers Section. In past years, the New Lawyers have
raked lawns for seniors, held a Halloween party for
youngsters at the Children’s Home Society, and collected
toys and books for those in need. You can help us
provide a hot meal to individuals at the People Serving
People homeless shelter or speak with youth at local
schools about jury selection in conjunction with the We
the Jury project. There will be a host of new events to
participate in this upcoming year. If you have a great
idea for a service project, join this committee and put
the idea into action!
Professionalism:
The New Lawyers Section believes in cultivating civility
and collegiality within the practice of law by
sponsoring events throughout the year that help
introduce new attorneys to the practicing bar and the
residing bench. In addition to our Recess with Judges
programs, which give new lawyers an intimate setting to
converse with Hennepin County judges, the New Lawyers
have encouraged member participation in HCBA programs
and events like the annual Bar Benefit, Charity Golf
Tournament, Judges Social, and Mentoring Program.
Social Events:
Meet and network with other
new attorneys in the community at one of the many New
Lawyers Section’s social events. Take in a summer day
outside with your colleagues at our annual St. Paul
Saints outing. Or sip a martini and enjoy hors d’oeuvres
with friends at one of the monthly New Lawyers happy
hour events. Take part in a friendly game of softball or
touch-football as the Hennepin County and Ramsey County
attorneys continue their annual rivalries. From
billiards to lawn bowling, and from softball to
semi-formal affairs, the HCBA New Lawyers always have
something fun to add to your calendar. "Work hard and
play hard" is our motto. |
