The Equifax Data Breach: Litigation Basics

After Equifax announced last Fall that a breach exposed information about more than 143 million customers, numerous lawsuits were filed around the country alleging multiple acts of negligence on Equifax’s part.  Since then, these cases have been consolidated into a multi-district litigation in the Northern District of Georgia before Judge Thrash.  Judge Thrash has appointed a leadership committee for the cases brought on behalf of consumers and financial institutions against Equifax.  Robins Kaplan partner Stacey Slaughter was appointed to the eight-member Financial Institution Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in this multi-district lawsuit. Ms. Slaughter and colleague Michael Pacelli will discuss some basics about the current litigation.
