WEBCAST | Federal Land Values and Proposed Copper Nickel Mining
Copper-Nickel Mining has been proposed in recent decades in Minnesota, but no such mine has ever been built. Now, the NorthMet Mine, proposed by the PolyMet Mining Company, stands closer to fruition than any copper-nickel mine in history. As part of its proposed mine plan, PolyMet must complete a land exchange with the US Forest Service. The land exchange has been challenged in federal court in the District of Minnesota on the basis of the land valuation, among other claims. But Congressional action at the federal level could affect the fate of the legal challenges. Hear an update on where the project stands, including the federal land exchange and the legal challenges thereto, from the leader of a prominent local environmental law organization.
