Mindfulness Meditation
Practice Group

Are you interested in learning about mindfulness meditation, or supporting your current meditation practice?

Mindfulness is the practice of present moment awareness of one’s bodily sensations, mental and emotional states, and external stimuli.  The practice is strictly secular and requires no belief system.  Mindfulness is a great tool for lawyers looking to enhance their capabilities and to bring greater balance and resilience to their practice.  Research has found that mindfulness can increase working memory, the ability to focus attention, cognitive flexibility, and self-insight and emotional intelligence—and reduce stress, depression, rumination and anxiety.  The American Bar Association’s National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being recently issued a report citing the benefits of mindfulness meditation and recognizing it as an important component for lawyer education.

We practice seated meditation in chairs, making it accessible to everyone. Beginners are welcome—no experience is necessary. The first twenty to twenty-five minutes consists of a guided meditation led by an experienced facilitator.  Participants then have an opportunity to stand and mindfully stretch for a few minutes if they wish.  The remainder of the meditation is largely silent, with some brief reminders to help you maintain your awareness. The last five minutes or so are an opportunity to comment on the experience, ask questions, and/or connect.  If you work downtown, you’ll be at your desk by nine o’clock, feeling centered and ready for your day.

The group’s current facilitators are Bob Zeglovitch and Mike Sacchet.  Bob practiced law for over thirty years in Minneapolis, at Leonard Street and Deinard and Stinson Leonard Street, as well as at his own solo law firm.  Mike is a litigator at Ciresi Conlin.
