HCBA Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Robins Kaplan
We Are All Criminals: A conversation about crime, privilege, punishment, mercy, and second chances

In partnership with  Robins Kaplan, the Hennepin County Bar Association is proud to host Emily Baxter, executive director of We Are All Criminals, for a conversation about crime, privilege, punishment, mercy, and second chances. WAAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to challenging society’s perceptions of what it means to be “criminal.” Using the book, We Are All Criminals, as a guide, and through stories, statutes, and statistics, Ms. Baxter will examine the true and profound impact of the legal system upon an individual, community, and nation.

You can expect to gain the following from this unique learning opportunity:

  1. An understanding of the broad and crushing collateral consequences of a criminal record, as well as the impact of those consequences upon, in particular, communities of color and indigenous communities
  2. An appreciation for a common criminality and humanity and an acknowledgement of the layers of privilege that benefit many in the room, but not many who are in the legal system
  3. The tools to disrupt racism and help shift concepts of crime, privilege, and redemption

Please join us after the presentation for a reception with snacks and drinks.
