The HCBA's Law & Literature CLE seminars provide a unique way to earn your CLE credits. Led by experienced facilitators, these popular CLE programs use short articles and works of fiction as a springboard for active discussions on legal ethics and bias.

This month’s discussion is focused on the play “Doubt: A Parable,” which was staged on Broadway and turned into an Academy Award nominated film. Set in 1964 at the fictional St. Nicholas Church School in the Bronx, Doubt was the recipient of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award winner for Best Play.

A copy of the play will be sent to you once you register and must be read in advance.   No walk-in registrations accepted.

2.0 CLE credits (Elimination of Bias) applied for.

To Be Discussed: Doubt: A Parable, by John Patrick Shanley.

Program Facilitator: Retired Judge Timothy Baland, Literature for Lifetime Learning.

Law, Literature, and the Theatre:
See “DOUBT” live!

If you’ve participated in Law & Literature CLEs before you may be aware that many of our selections are plays. The story for our March CLE is DOUBT the award-winning play by John Patrick Shanley.  As usual, CLE registrants will receive the text to be read before the March 11 seminar, but through a special arrangement with Artistry at Bloomington Center for the Arts we are adding a new dimension to the Law & Literature experience.

Discounted tickets to see DOUBT at the theater are available to Law & Lit registrants for the run of the play: February 26 to March 13.  Attend any performance that fits your schedule during the run, plus you can purchase tickets for guests. Register by Mon., Feb. 22 to help insure ticket availability to your preferred performance date.

When you register for the Law & Lit CLE, add the number of individual tickets you need, including yourself. You will receive an email post-registration asking for your choice of performance. If that show is sold out, we will contact you to reschedule or can refund your ticket purchase.  Once your reservation is confirmed we will not be able to offer exchanges or refunds. Theater policy is that all sales are final. Email with questions.
